Glencoe ski resort was the first Scottish ski area to open, back in the 1950s, and many Scot’s still think of it as offering Scotland’s best skiing. Located on the West Coast of the country it is located in stunning scenery, indeed Glencoe ski area has some of the world’s best views from a ski slope. The city of Glasgow’s closest ski area, it is 30 miles from Nevis Range ski resort to the north.
Glencoe’s ski slopes are on Meall a'Bhuiridh (pronounced 'male a voorree') - the name of the actual mountain you ski on in the indigenous Gaelic language. It stands alongside the Buchaille Etive (gaelic for 'Shepherd of the Glen').
Glencoe’s ski slopes are reached by a chairlift from the resort base, and at the top of it a plateau is crossed by a drag lift opening up some of Scotland’s best beginner slopes. Beyond this Glencoe ski area remains a compact area that’s easy to navigate, but including Scotland's steepest ski run, Flypaper.
