Otis Ridge - Fakten Skigebiet

Otis Ridge celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 1997 and shows no signs of slowing down. It's a family-friendly day area just a few miles south of the Mass Pike in Otis, with a full range of services, and modern snowmaking and grooming. The ski and snowboard school is complemented by the Otis Ridge Ski Camp, a unique feature for Otis and unusual anywhere. Boys and girls ages eight to 15, novice to expert, can learn to ski or hone skills already acquired. Like a more familiar summer camp, there's a full slate of activities to occupy off-slope time. Instructors also act as camp counselors, and all campers are lodged in the camp's rustic dormitories. The campus is at the top of Otis Ridge, and features after-ski activities including night hikes, ping-pong tournaments, and more. In recognition of the popularity of snowboarding, a snowboard component was added to the school's curriculum several years ago. Terrain Six lifts include a double chair, and they serve about a dozen trails and open slopes for all abilities. There's skiing and riding at night on about half the terrain. At the base, there's a full-service lodge, a guest services building, and the Grouse House, a country inn and restaurant with a delightful view of the slopes. Those slopes are largely intermediate, but John's Cliff provides a challenging drop over a small headwall. For beginners, Acorn meanders gently along the perimeter of the area from the top. For the most part trails tend to be "wide enough", that is traditionally cut with room to turn but not too wide. The thick woods between most trails and the rolling, wooded views of the Berkshires give Otis Ridge a remote, private feeling despite its proximity to the Mass Pike. A handful of good restaurants and small inns can be found in and around the town of Otis, and the area is laced with miles of snowmobile trails.
