Whaleback - Fakten Skigebiet

A small area located adjacent to Interstate 89, Whaleback Mountain of Enfield, New Hampshire is making a strong comeback. The brain child of two time Olympian Evan Dybvig and Zero Gravity's co-owner Frank Sparrow, the "new" Whaleback occupies a unique niche in the skiing and riding world. Approaching the re-development of the area from a year round perspective, Whaleback now not only provides an abundance of winter programs such as league racing, ski race training, snowboarding, freestyle and winter camps, but also summer programs and camps for in line skating and skateboarding, creating a new and stimulating addition to regional recreational offerings. Terrain With these specialized training opportunities also comes a more traditional on snow experience in New England. Featuring 30 trails and five lifts ( one double chair, one magic carpet and 3 surface lifts) Whaleback provides 85 ski able acres and over 700 feet of vertical fun, with 60% or more of the terrain falling into the "beginner" to "intermediate" range. And while there is ample cruising terrain to be had (try Spout for a relaxed ride down the mountain) Whaleback also provides plenty of challenge through its glades and steeper runs, with Jawbone highly recommended for those with the ability. Moreover, Whaleback offers night skiing and riding on 21 of its 30 runs, as well as the enhanced snow quality that comes with snowmaking on 85% of the trails. Whaleback also permits access to select parts of the mountain at reduced rates, including the tubing hill and the job park, for which lift tickets are available at very reasonable prices. Easily seen and found from Exit 16 on Interstate 89, Whaleback provides a diverse evening experience of its own, with frequent musical guests appearing in the mountain pub, while the proximity to the Lebanon and Hanover areas of New Hampshire assures visitors of the best choices in dining, accommodations and nightlife (links to which are available through the resort's site) all just a few miles away, as well as all the wonders of life on the many local lakes during the warmer months, most notably Lake Sunapee. One of the regions smaller resorts, Whaleback nonetheless delivers performance far beyond its boundaries and is well worth a visit.
